Say command and other text to speech not working.
« on: January 18, 2025, 03:00:24 PM »
I have VoiceAttack 1.15 and Windows 10.  All of the general sound commands such as Play a sound work fine, but the Say something with text-to-speech command does not work and, the preview in setting up Sound Effects does not work.

I have tried multiple outputs, speakers, headphones, voicemeeter, etc with no luck. I have double-checked all of my settings in VoiceAttack and Windows 10 Settings> Time and Language > Speech. Changing voices and the preview voice work in Windows settings. Windows Narrator works fine as well.

Any idea what I need to change to get the Say something with text-to-speech command to work?

If you hold the Windows key on your keyboard, press the "R" key, then release both and paste
Code: [Select]
control.exe /NAME Microsoft.TextToSpeechinto the "Open:" textbox and click "OK", what is listed in the "Voice selection" dropdown?

Click the wrench icon on VoiceAttack's main window, and on the "General" tab of the VoiceAttack options window click "System info >", choose "Generate Settings Summary", then "Write to File"; Save the file and attach it to a post here.

According to the settings summary, you have sound file playback and text-to-speech playback volume set to zero, so effectively muted.

Make sure the "Sound File Volume Offset" and "TTS Volume Offset" option on the "Audio" tab of the VoiceAttack options window are set to an audible value.

The sound File volume offset is 30 and TTS Volume offset is 50.

I changed both values to 100 and it is now working.  Thank you.

If the values you were seeing didn't match those in the settings summary, that seems to indicate something had/has gotten corrupted in your config file.

Changing the settings will have overwritten the corrupt values with correct ones, thus resolving the issue. Normally you should be able to re-adjust them if you'd prefer them to be less than 100.

If you encounter more strange issues like this, it'd be worth using the "Reset Defaults" button on the "General" tab of the VoiceAttack options window to reset all settings to their default values, including registration data, to try and make sure any corrupt settings entries are removed.
You'd want to make note of your current settings ahead of time, so you can input them afterwards.
