Problem with Quick Input feature.
« on: May 13, 2016, 09:43:51 PM »
I like to use the Quick Input feature to type my username and password. I was using the record command, but I was having problems with it. Just found out about the Quick Input feature, but it's having the same problem.

Jeez, I was going to show you the problem, but VA is on it's best behavior at the moment.
Here's some examples that usually happen though. Not my real email address.

Should look like this: icetesting@comcast.net

Instead it will look like this.

ictesting@comcast.net
ic@comcast.net
icest@comsas.net
itestin@coms.net

Odd thing is, if you activate it twice in a roll, the second time is usually always right. Don't understand it.

Now, I've played with the timing, doesn't seems to matter how slow you make it type each letter, it still spells it wrong.

Hmm, this is the result after trying to input my email in a web address bar. i.netiiiiic <that right there is about 8 tries in a row.

No idea why it's doing it. Hope you can figure it out.

Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit
3770k cpu
32gigs of ram

Hi, Iceblast.

I'm not sure what is up with your system.  I am using VoiceAttack to type this message into the browser window with a 0 second pause, using four separate, consecutive commands.
Here's ten 'icetesting@comcast.net' in short order:
'icetesting@comcast.net'
'icetesting@comcast.net'
'icetesting@comcast.net'
'icetesting@comcast.net'
'icetesting@comcast.net'
'icetesting@comcast.net'
'icetesting@comcast.net'
'icetesting@comcast.net'
'icetesting@comcast.net'
'icetesting@comcast.net'

Make sure you are not running Synergy or TeamViewer or something that may be hooking the keyboard.  For the record, in the next update there are some built-in checks for those applications.  I just noticed that DirectX mode seems to always be the default for this screen.  I'll check that out, too.

Hope that helps!

Hmm, I did have Team Viewer running, didn't even know it, but didn't seem to help the problem.

I use Opera as my main browser. If you try to use VA to input a address in the address bar, it just types: I

If I open Notepad, VA works fine.

It seems to only have issue with some programs. Making it hard to figure out the problem.

Also, VA works fine here in these forums, but if I try it in the address bar, it doesn't work.

If I tell it to input my email address, it instead types instagram.com no idea why, I never use instagram, and have no reason to have a macro for the address, so don't know where it is coming from.

I've also tried Terminating all programs that I could, and it didn't seem to make a difference. Question though, if it was a program causing the problem, wouldn't it also prevent VA from working in notepad, or here in the forums? Why is it random. Very odd problem, hoping you might have a idea.

I downloaded a portable version of Opera to test, and it appears to be a problem with Opera specifically.
I'm getting very similar results, where even a 5 seconds delay will only type a few characters("www.google.com" turned into "wwgol")

Like just about any modern browser, it does provide search suggestions while you type, which would slow input a little, but Firefox also provides these suggestions and it works flawlessly with a standard 60ms delay.

Where are you typing login data? I was going to test a Comcast email login(typing at least), but their site isn't accessible at the moment(maintenance).

Gmail works without issue in Opera, at least.

This is the same command in Opera 37.0.2178.43.  Also tried in 30.x before I updated it.  I don't have any Opera plugins installed:

Well, I don't usually use quick input in the address bar. Just seemed to be the easiest place for it to error. Where I usually use it, is logging in to a web site, or registering on a web site. Just makes it easier that way. Doesn't always error, but when it does, it's like missing one letter, or just screwed.

It's odd that I can paste a email address into the address bar, and have no problem doing it, or I could type it in manually, with no issue, but do it with VA, and it's screwed.

Maybe of it the Quick Input command, copied the word to the clipboard, and did a paste command, it would solve the problem. For all I know, that's what it's doing now.

Quick Input doesn't use the clipboard. It types out letter per letter, with the delay you've set.

What will work is:
Code: [Select]
Set Windows clipboard to 'www.google.com'
Press Left Ctrl+V keys and hold for 0,2 seconds and release
Which is using "Set a Text Value to the Windows Clipboard".

This will work fine in the Opera address bar, so presumably in other text fields as well.

Just as an additional thing: I have noticed a similar problem with Keepass (password manager) and using its auto type facility.

With Chrome/Firefox, it worked fine... with IE/Opera... it would be garbled output. So just to show that it isn't just a VA issue

I don't know programming, is that code something you can use to work with VA? If so, how do you use it?

Pfeil I figured it out, that is just plain awesome! Completely fixed my problem! I had no idea VA could do that so easily!

Thanks for the help!
