Spurious command implementation with no voice trigger!
« on: February 19, 2020, 04:37:36 AM »
Having a problem with VA in Elite Dangerous. It is activating commands with no voice input. Using it with the HCS Voicepack and the 2 commands most commonly activated are ship tab and lights on. I bought a new USB headphones and boom mic setup. Didn’t help. Tried turning down the sensitivity in VA, now down to 1, no improvement. Checking the log VA is recognising commands, but don’t know where from. Using it in a quiet room with no conversation or TV in the background. I can’t work out why it is happening. Sometimes coughing, clearing throat or taking a deep breath triggers something, but mostly not. Have run through the speech training 3 times. No difference. Any ideas?
Thanks Fred.

It seems you've tried some of what's listed in the "I'm not saying anything but VoiceAttack keeps hearing things" section of this topic, but it would still be prudent to double check.

How is your microphone volume set? Do you have any volume boosting features enabled?

Have you enabled the "Show Confidence Level" option, to see how sure the speech recognition engine is that you're actually speaking those commands?
If the value is low enough to determine a workable threshold between erroneous and intentional commands, you could set the "Minimum Confidence Level" option to that value.

Have you tried recording what your microphone is hearing, to see if there is discernible line noise (E.G. a background hum)?

I presume the mic volume is set in Windows. Will check. Not used USB headphone/mic before. There is a headphone volume control on the headset. Also a mute button. Hitting mute stops it. Will enable confidence level and see what it shows.

That seems to have helped. Turned down mic volume and increased confidence level to 65% as the commands were coming in at 60+%. Get the odd one now so will tweak a bit more and hopefully sort it completely.
