VA keeps crashing

VoiceAttack is crashing while I am playing X3 Albion Prelude. It will usually work for a couple of hours before it crashes. I have tried uninstalling and re-installing but that hasn't helped.

What version of VoiceAttack and Windows are you using?  Is there any other detail you can provide in regards to what was going on when the crash occurred?  I want to solve this for you, but the log detail is kind of vague as to what actually happened :(

What version of VoiceAttack and Windows are you using?  Is there any other detail you can provide in regards to what was going on when the crash occurred?  I want to solve this for you, but the log detail is kind of vague as to what actually happened :(

Windows 10 latest version. VoiceAttack latest version. It usually happens after a command (not always the same one). Sometimes it comes up with an error saying system out of memory (I have 16GB) and sometimes VoiceAttack just disappears from task manager. I will make a note of the exact error message the next time it happens.

If I may add to that: Are you running any plugins?

I had some HCS plugins installed and I have removed them and re-installed VA, but the problem still occurs.

It's not a typical issue to just run out of memory like that and it's going to require some level of being able to reproduce your problem.  Do you know of any inline functions that may be running in the profile you are using?  Are you running VoiceAttack in, 'compact mode' by chance?

It's not a typical issue to just run out of memory like that and it's going to require some level of being able to reproduce your problem.  Do you know of any inline functions that may be running in the profile you are using?  Are you running VoiceAttack in, 'compact mode' by chance?

It's a very simple profile. Each command has one activation phrase, one key press, and one spoken response (using the default Windows TTS voices).

I don't think I have had the out of memory error since I deleted the HCS plugins and re-installed VA. Now when it crashes, VA just disappears without any error message

Are there any new entries in your fault file or is that unchanged?  Another place to look would be in your Windows event log - there could be a clue in there.  Again, this is atypical behavior, and it's going to come down to some type of anomaly on your individual system.  It would be good if several people had the same issue, as a pattern can usually be determined (which would make the issue easier to reproduce).  Any additional information you can gather from here out would be beneficial.

One thing I always suggest is running a system file scan (which is something that you should do from time to time anyway):  https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/929833/use-the-system-file-checker-tool-to-repair-missing-or-corrupted-system

I am also having a similar problem.  Windows 10, latest Voice Attack, Vaicom profile for DCS...  I sometimes leave the computer (have dinner, whatever) for a period of time.  I leave DCS running (between missions or paused), Steam VR running, and VoiceAttack running.  When I return VoiceAttack has gone away, no indication of a crash, it is just closed.

Hi, Terry.  A few questions for you, as I'm not able to ascertain a specific issue (other than fault in msvcrt.dll):

1) Are you using any plugins?  If so, have you tried disabling plugins?

2) Are any of your commands using inline functions (C# or VB.net code)?

3) Are you using any third-party profiles?  If so, have you tried running for long times without using those profiles?

4) Is there anything in the VoiceAttackFault.txt file (located in your installation directory for VoiceAttack... usually C:\Program Files (x86)\VoiceAttack or C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\VoiceAttack) ?

Hi Gary,

1. no plugins, I am running VaicomPro, but I believe this is a profile, not a plug in ?
2. over my head !  don't believe so...  I haven't really done anything other than install VA and Vaicom
3.  again, only the VaicomPro product...
4.  nothing in VoiceAttack folder with this name, i.e. nothing has generated a fault file ?

since that last windows update, other strange occurences...  the computer crashes overnight, i.e. when I go to wake it up in the morning get an error screen, have to restart...  I did run a chkdsk routine on C drive and based on one days experience no overnight crash of computer...

I'll keep poking around and keep you advised of what I observe, thanks !

The download for Vaicom is titled "VOICEATTACK PLUGIN", and is delivered as a zipped .dll, so it is indeed a plugin.

You should also see a "Plugin '' initialized." message in the log when starting VoiceAttack referring to Vaicom.

This may be a bit premature, but...

during the time these problems have occured, i.e. Voice Attack just going away spontaneously, Windows 10 crashing overnight, suspected to be after a Windows 10 update event...

I updated the bios on my ASUS motherboard, latest iteration of bios is relatively recent, like August of 2018 or something, and since that bios update I haven't had an overnight Windows crash and Voice Attack seems stable...
