VoiceAttack stopped listening to me
« on: May 14, 2016, 10:07:49 AM »
Hello,

I've been using Voice Attack with Elite: Dangerous couple months back and it worked fine, now that I've started playing E:D again Voice Attack doesn't listens to me. I can't even see the "Loudness Meter" at the bottom.

I've tried reinstalling it, "Reset Defaults" option in the options menu. Both Cortana and the "Windows Speech Recognition" application do work on my computer (and listen to me).

I'm running VoiceAttack version 1.5.8 on Windows 10 Home with i7-6700 and 16GB of RAM, without soundcard (except the built-in one on my motherboard (MSI B150 GAMING M3)). I also haven't changed my microphone and any hardware in my computer since then.

I am in the same boat but it never has even been able to listen to me when I got voice attack back. I have two different types of recording devices webcam and headset.

The headset is default device and default comms device as well so it not a wrong default problem, but even if I set the webcam as default device and on comms, its still not listening.

My brother got it to work at one point but I cant recreate it and when it was listening it wasnt listening to well. I set my microphone high on volume and high on boost and it still had a hard time.

I would like to know is voice attack relatively new on windows 10?

Please get back to us guys.

You may want to try unplugging the webcam and make sure you are not running any other third-party software that may be interfering with your mic.  Sonic Studio by Asus seems to be making problems as of late, as well as the voice-altering software included with Logitech headsets (Screaming Bee or something like that).

VoiceAttack is developed and primarily tested on Windows 10 64 bit Pro.

That the thing I have on my computer sonic studio. What kinda of things can I do to help it stop interfering.

I don't have the voice altering or enhancing features on at the moment.

Try disabling Sonic Studio for the duration of your VoiceAttack session and see if that helps, as it has caused issue with some users.

Also, can you do me a HUGE HUGE HUGE favor?  In your Task Manager, can you tell me how Sonic Studio is listed?  If it has an expander arrow out to the left, can you tell me what it is listed as in both the non-expanded as well as expanded?  If you don't want reply here, could you send me an email at support@voiceattack.com?  The reason is that I'm building a list of software that potentially interferes with VA, so that the user can be warned on VA startup (I don't have Sonic Studio).

It seems like it doesnt have an arrow to expand to something. SS2UILauncher (32bit) is whats running.

I will get back to you in a bit after I stop it to see if it helped.

Ok so there where 3 programs running. All of them started with SS for sonic studio. I just stopped them all and it worked!!

I can be more specific if need be.

Thanks for the advice!

Glad that worked :)

Thank you VERY much for the info.

Can I bug you for the labels of the other two instances?  I can add them to the mix.  The feature will be in the next release and will hopefully help out.  The VoiceAttack community salutes you ;)

Ok

SS2UILauncher (32bit)

And the side processes are

SS2Svc32 (32bit)

SS2Svc64

Those are the two I ended the processes of and it was fixed!

Excellent!  Thank you so much.

Once the update comes out, you'll get a warning in the log on the load of VA if you have Sound Studio running (or Synergy or TeamViewer).

I was watching a video for Sonic Studio.  I was wondering if you turn off, 'Voice Clarity' and/or 'Perfect Voice' if either or both of those made a difference?  This would eliminate having to turn it off completely, as I would understand some of the other features would probably be nice.

Nope. During the time I had it enabled I tried them on or off and voice clarity is for music only.

Turning off completely is the only solution.

Not sure who this is, but the last line is interesting:
Quote
Now I just re-started Sonic Studio 2, and Voice Attack is still Working!

Can anyone with Sonic Studio 2 installed check what happens if you restart it when VoiceAttack is running and working? If Sonic Studio's effects work, having VoiceAttack stop and restart the service could be a workaround so you don't lose functionality.

Another thought: Have any of you tried toggling "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device" off?
It's under Control Panel/Sound/Recording/%Microphone%/Advanced/Exclusive Mode

yes that worked. Had VA up and working, started sonic studio 2 and its still working.

Will note anything if I change stuff on sonic studio 2 if it effects VA.

I am pretty sure it was enabled for me at the time I was having trouble with sonic studio 2.

Sorry for the long response, I was out of town....

I've tried making a new Speech Recognition profile, which yielded no results. Voice Attack still wasn't listening to me.

I do use Audacity on some occasions which is similar to Sonic Studio but I don't use it whilst using Voice Attack (not even during same session on my computer).

I've tried installing the beta version 1.5.8.18 but that also didn't caused any change.

So... I can't yell at my computer to redirect power to shields which makes me feel sad.

Yes, I can use the Windows Speech Recognition app that comes with Windows without problems and it listens to me just fine.
