Constant random crashes
« on: September 28, 2016, 03:05:59 AM »
Hi all, I recently purchased voice attack for use whilst playing Elite: Dangerous and am very impressed with it so far. My issue however is that it randomly crashes at uneven time intervals. Sometimes I can have it running flawlessly for 20 - 30 minutes other times I only get a few minutes between crashes.

Crashes can happen at any time, when the program is idle/not actively listening to me, mid command, in the editor etc.

So far I have tried the following:

Complete uninstall and re-install of the program run as admin.
Making a new speech recognition profile in windows.
I tried running the program and one by one disabling all other backgroud processes such as head tracking (ED Tracker), Discord chat, EDToolbox, Autohotkeyscript. Each time the program would still crash on me. I ended up unplugging all non essential peripherals too (hotas, ED tracker) basically had the program running on its own and it still crashed.

Edit: I have now tried an older version of Voiceattack (again a clean uninstall/re-install) and am having the same issues.

I cant seem to find any logs in the voice attack directory so I pulled the windows error report as per a friends advice.

I am not entirely sure what else I can do.

Is there any message that pops up when VA crashes?

Also, you may want to try doing a system file scan, as that's usually the first thing I do when things just don't seem right on my pc:  https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929833

The beta also has had a lot of updates since the release:  http://www.voiceattack.com/beta

Try checking the two options, 'Disable Adaptive Recognition' and 'Disable Acoustic Echo Cancellation' on the options screen.  Also, try turning off any plugins if you have them running.

Hope something in there helps ;)

Thanks for responding, I followed your advice and ran the system file scan. No errors were found. I then did a clean install of the beta version and unchecked the options suggested -  'Disable Adaptive Recognition' and 'Disable Acoustic Echo Cancellation'. I tried running the program and again it crashed.

This time instead of just the usual" Voiceattack.exe has stopped" message, another dialogue box appeared. This gave me the option to start VA in another mode allowing me access to more options. I disabled joystick support as I had read that this could possibly cause some issues. I also disabled the plugins here as well. So far the program has run without any issues.

Are you by chance using an X-56 joystick?

Nope, using the Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas. It was the X-55 issue I read that made me disable the joystick inputs though. Still no crashes on my system so that's approx 24 hours without issue now. Seems to be fixed. I will see if I can re-apply settings one at a time and narrow down what the issue was.

Would you be willing to see if your stick driver needs to be updated or reinstalled and try again?

Thanks for all the info, btw.
