Alternate IDE or possible to edit profiles in text editor?

Long time software engineer here. Is there an alternate IDE that can be used to edit profiles? Even being able to open a profile in a text editor so I can see all the code at once would be helpful. Not being able to browse the entire code of a profile and instead looking at one small snippet at a time is a special kind of hell for me. Help?

You can export your profile and look at the XML.  Other than that, you're stuck with the peephole view

I took a look once with an XML viewer, I think to find a good way of renaming quickly or something like that.

I like the peephole view better.
