Control 2 applications simultaneously?
« on: May 04, 2017, 11:05:50 AM »
This is probably pretty simple actually.

Using V/A to control a game, which seems to work fine.

I want to issue a command to turn volume up or down, which is a windows function... and supported on the keyboard, but I don't want to lose focus of the game I'm playing. Is it just simply adding the UP and DoWN command definitions for volume, or do I have to specify these commands go outside of the Active Window... which is of course the game

Using VA's Set Audio Level dialog (see page ~43 of the help document) you shouldn't need to lose focus of your running application of interest. Admittedly though I haven't done a lot with changing volume on separate applications - just changing the system volume usually suits my needs. Check out Gary's and my Volume Control profiles to get an idea for what's possible.

OR..... (for at least audio up/down), you can use the media hotkey....

@Gangrel - I assume you're referring to media buttons on a keyboard, and under most circumstances I absolutely agree with you. But for applications (or use cases) that prevent the user from employing the media keys (e.g. VR while not at the keyboard or in some applications that disable the media keys like Skyrim) then using your voice to adjust the volume is quite handy (plus it's just plain fun ;))

Exactly... I can't take hand off wheel when driving to change the volume level (while in a racing Sim). Thus why I was asking the original question.

What I think Gangrel was meaning is that the media keys can be accessed via VA keypress actions (not by hands).

There's also the Other > Windows > Set audio level actions if you want to try those out.

Thanks for pointing that out Gary. Looks like I glossed over that feature (page 27 of the help document).

That is exactly what I was referring to, and the fact that (interestingly, depending on the app), they also accept modifier keys, so you can do (as I do with Foobar), set a combination up (Ctrl+Play/Pause) to change the play order (sequential to random or whatever you want) and then you set VA to hit that combination.
