Random Volume issues with Voice attack and elite dangerous
« on: February 09, 2019, 07:11:45 AM »
Hello all,
I am having an issue that is driving me crazy.
My headset mic volume in Voice attack changes randomly while I am playing Elite Dangerous.
I have a Kraken 7.1 headset, windows 10 and have done the training of my speech engine.
My VA version is 1.7.3
I have my mic set to 100 percent for the volume and it stays there, however some of the time my mic volume will lower for a short time to levels that VA will not hear me, or hear me incorrectly. I have disable acoustic echo cancellation checked, I also have AGC turned off in windows and my defaults are all set to the Kraken 7.1.
I cant seem to figure this out... most of the time the mic volume stay up at 100 percent but just when I need VA to hear me it will drop to about 5 percent then after about 1-3 minutes it will go back to 100 percent.
Any thoughts?

Wow... that's a really weird thing to happen.  Unless you've got command actions that alter your recording device's level, VoiceAttack does not alter the level of your devices.  There is something going on with your system that is happening with some combination of events that is causing this to occur.  I've seen cases where the speech engine will either lower or raise the mic volume (due to training), but that will happen when the speech engine is started up and lasts the entire time it is active.  Dropping out and restoring randomly is something I have not encountered before.
You'll want to take a look at these threads to see if they can help at all:

I think I may have figure it out finially.
if you have Razor Synapse you need to go into the headphones setting and select MIC then uncheck "Active Mic Noise Cancellation"
simply unchecking AGC in sound settings will not shut this off.
Been playing ED for about 15 minutes now with no voice issues

Awesome!  Good catch :)

Thank you for the info - that will definitely help others.  I will update the info in the frequently asked questions section to include what you have found.  Were the items you had updated within the Synapse software or was it within Windows' settings?

My issue turned out to be in the synapse software, there was a setting in it to turn on active mic noise cancelation under the mic settings, I unchecked it and after2 days I have not had a single issue.
