NBA2k - Anyone tried using VA for calling plays, etc?

On PC, the game does have keyboard commands, so I can get VA to issue commands for calling stuff like series and freestyles. But the problem I'm having is this seems to break the playing call mechanism in the game. After a couple calls, the loses the ability to to bring up the playcalling interface, both with the keyboard and with the gamepad.

Anyone else tried NBA2k19 (or others I guess) and have any issues or workaround?
