In this How-To, a German speech pack will be added to a Windows 10 Professional installation.
Note that this only applies to the Professional version of Windows 10... and that it's Windows... and that its 10. Professional.
Press the Windows key
on your keyboard to bring up the start menu.
Type, 'region'.
'Region and language settings' will be in your list to select:
Click on it
to go to the next step.
The, 'Time & Language' dialog box will be shown, with the, 'Region & Language' section selected.
Click on, 'Add a language'.
On the, 'Add a language' screen, scroll over until you
find, 'Deutsch (German)'. Click on it.
Click on the, 'Deutch (Deutschland)' variant.
Now the German language is added to the list. Notice that the description says, 'language pack available'.
Click on this item
and you'll get a few buttons. Click on the, 'options' button.
The language options screen will have a
download button
located under, 'Speech'.
Click on it
to download the speech pack.
You will get a message, 'Adding new features to windows' as the pack downloads. In this example, it's 105 megs, so it could take a minute.
The process will unceremoniously complete and you will see a, 'Settings' link in the spot below, 'Speech'.
That's all there is to it
.
Now, if you launch VoiceAttack and go to the Options screen, you will see the German speech engine in the list:
Also, if you add a text-to-speech action, the German TTS voice will be available:
To remove the speech engine, you need to follow a similar path.
Press the Windows key
on your keyboard to bring up the start menu.
Type, 'region'.
'Region and language settings' will be in your list to select:
Click on it
to go to the next step.
The, 'Time & Language' dialog box will be shown, with the, 'Region & Language' section selected.
Click on the, 'Deutsch (Deutschland)' item
and you will get a selection of buttons.
Click on the, 'Remove' button
. Note this removes the entire language, but it's easy enough to put back.
You will need to reboot to see the changes.
Hope that helps some!
