What did I do wrong? [Text to Speech]
« on: December 13, 2016, 08:13:37 PM »
Here is what I have in my text to speech:

[Deploying;Sending;Dropping] Flame-40;Flam-40;Incinerator [Now;Sir;] <---Copy/Paste from VA, exactly as I have it.

What I want it to do:

Say: [Deploying or Sending or Dropping] (Flame-40 or Flam-40 or Incinerator) Optional:[Now or Sir]

What it does:

Say: Incinerator Now or Sending Flame-40 or Incinerator Sir Etc.

I thought I understood how to use this but obviously not. What am I doing wrong?

You're missing a set of [] in the middle section - I think VA is seeing your code as three options, ie
Say [Deploying;Sending;Dropping] Flame-40
OR Say Flam-40
OR Say Incinerator [Now;Sir;]

Try:
[Deploying;Sending;Dropping] [Flame-40;Flam-40;Incinerator] [Now;Sir;]

Thank you, that fixed it. I'm still really new to using VA. I was going off what I found in the PDF file. There are no [] around the word captain so I thought that I needed to leave them out. I'm including an example from the PDF below, am I misunderstanding it, maybe something changed or a bug?

Section from PDF:

The dynamic response sections don't have to just be at the beginning. They can be
anywhere in the phrase. Also, as a side-effect, if you put a semicolon on at the end of
the selections, it makes the section optional:
[Greetings;Hello]captain[how are you;]  <---- captain has no [] around it.

This results in a response of:

 Greetings captain how are you
 Hello captain how are you
 Greetings captain
 Hello captain

[Greetings;Hello]captain[how are you;]  <---- captain has no [] around it.
Because, it is a single word, and the sample wants it to be always included in every combination... in your case, you want a choice for "Flame-40;Flam-40;Incinerator", hence you need the []

Okay, I understand now. Thank you both for your replies. I do truly appreciate the help you've provided.
