microphone stopped working today

After years of no issues, I'm stuck.

I'm testing different microphones and the red microphone icon stays red.  I'm following my usual routine to go into options.  The plantronics microphone is what I'm using but the red icon when I hover over it says no signal and the Headset Microphone is not the one I'm using.  Rebooting didn't help.

The problem sticks whether I run SpadNext or not.  The Red Microphone Icon hover shows my VR headset and I don't know how to fix it.

Go to the Recognition tab.  Look at the 'Windows Speech Recording Device' and make sure that the microphone that you are intending to use is selected there, then click 'OK'.
