Push to listen not working on Xbox Controller

I have been using a T.Flight HOTAS for ED, and Voice Attack was fine with it but now it broke.
So I wanted to change to a Xbox Series X controller (standard, not elite), and VA attack won't recognize any button presses on the controller to assign them as Push to Listen.

It shows the HOTAS button, RESET it, and nothing. Tried with the Xbox and HOTAS plugged in the pc, and with just the Xbox, and still nothing.
Xbox controller's FW is up to date

Any ideas why?

Have you assigned your controller to a joystick slot?

If so, try assigning the "Gamepad Controller" device, rather than the actual device for your controller.
