VA version check error
« on: January 25, 2020, 09:32:37 AM »
When loading VA and Viacom Pro, I get the following message: "Voice Attack version check error Unable to connect to server" What server? Everything seems to be working ok even with this message.

If this is the VoiceAttack version check (and not something from VAICOM), VoiceAttack is checking to see if an update is available and is not able to connect to the site.  This could be due to a bad internet connection at the time of the attempt to get the information, or an outage of VoiceAttack.com (not seeing any reports of outages, though).

The reason VoiceAttack is checking for version updates is because you've got the option, 'Check for updates on startup' selected (off by default) on the Options > General tab.  Just uncheck that box to have VoiceAttack not check for updates when it starts.

Hope that helps!

Thanks.  A nice simple explanation.  BTW, my internet is running fine and was running when this error popped up so I am not sure what the issue really is.

Not sure what happened there - I'm not getting any reports of the site being down, and my provider is not reporting any outages.  What I do know for sure is that the internet is reliable in its unreliability ;)

What's going on with VA is there is a simple http web request (just like your browser) to a service on VoiceAttack.com.  If there's no connection or reply in a certain amount of time, VA gives up and shows that message.  If there is a reply, the response that comes back is almost nothing in size (text).  Again, if you want to avoid that message altogether, just uncheck the box and VA will only check for updates if you click the, 'Check for updates' button.
