Many random problems happening with VA.
« on: February 04, 2019, 12:14:38 PM »
I have a friend who got VA because he saw all the things I was doing with it.

He uses Windows 10 64 bit. AMD 8350 CPU, 16 gigs of ram.

I'm just going to try to list some of the problems he keeps having, and hope it will point to the problem, with a possible solution.

1. VA Mic will resume listening all by it's self. At times, even when you see the red circle with the line through it, the mic will be on, you run the mouse across it, and the red circle will disappear. You click to turn it off again, and many times, it doesn't turn off, the red circle will be there, but just move the mouse over it again, will make it disappear.

2. He has a problem with VA no longer excepting the command key to resume listening. This usually happens after he uses 3 or 4 commands, then he has to restart VA to get it working again, and this just keeps happening, over and over again. Very Frustrating!

3. He has a, What is the {time}, command. That for no apparent reason will keep repeating it's self.

4. Last night I helped him create a new profile. With just simple commands, like CTRL+T, and CTRL+W. He has the same Logitech Mouse I have the G600 MMO Mouse. We set the mouse to use F13-F24 keys, and it worked great last night. This morning, when he went to use them, 2 of the commands no longer recognized the button input from the mouse, yet, all the other buttons were recognized. No matter what I tried, I couldn't get VA to see those buttons again, when last night, they worked fine.

We tested the buttons on the mouse and they work fine. We uninstalled Logitech's software, and downloaded the newest version. We also Uninstall VA and reinstalled it. None of these things made any difference.

I use the same Logitech software with mine, and it works perfectly, for the last 4 or 5 years with VA.

I don't know what else to try, from what I understand, he doesn't have any sound programs running, or other programs that control keyboard and mouse. I was thinking he has a program conflicting with VA, and if he does, I'm just not sure what it would be. Is there something in Windows 10 it's self that could be doing it. He has disabled Cortana, and he doesn't use the speech recognition of windows. Only VA has access to the speech engine.

I hope there is something I said, that might give you a idea what's going wrong.

That's an awful lot of atypical issues, iceblast.  He may want to try reinstalling VA as a starting point to rule out a botched installation.  I would then try doing a system file scan and maybe trying VA on another machine.  VA doesn't normally act like what you're describing for any one of those items, so, I can only surmise the system that it is installed on is out of sorts in one way or another (there could be any number of issues on that machine).

LOL, said the same things to him about his computer. It just didn't make any sense why he was having so many problems, yet, couldn't find anyway to fix it.

ok, he reinstalled it again, and he deleted the VoiceAttack.dat file this time.

It seems it might have fixed the problem. Which would be amazing, considering he's had this problem a long time, and has uninstall VA many times.

I will let you know, if any of the problems are still there.

Sorry... I meant to say to uninstall and make sure the contents of the directory are actually gone.  I know that's what's supposed to happen with the uninstaller, but just make doubly sure.
